Governance

The United Church of Christ participates in the “free-church” tradition, in which the local congregation is the primary locus of mission and ministry, and First Congregational Appleton governs itself using that model. We maintain covenantal relationships with other congregations, the Northeast Wisconsin Association, the Wisconsin Conference, and national offices and boards, in order that by working together with other settings of the UCC and other denominations we can accomplish things that we could not do alone. At the same time, we affirm and acknowledge that full decision-making authority, and full responsibility for mission and ministry, rest with our congregation.
