2011-12 Worship Theme

A Door Set Open
“I have set before you an open door,
which no one is able to shut” (Revelation 3:8).

As our theme for the program year, we have adopted “A Door Set Open.” Drawing from the letters of John the Seer to the early Christian Churches, we too discover that God has “set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut.” This image is so important to our life together that we have called ourselves the Church of the Open Door. This year we will be reflecting on what being an open door might mean for our congregation.

Our program year will explore seven themes of openness:

  • Open for True Community (Rev. 3:7-13 – The Church in Philadelphia) - Sept. 11 – Oct. 9
  • Open to Reviving Love (Rev. 2:1-7 – The Church in Ephesus) - Oct. 16 – Nov. 13
  • Open for the Common Good (Rev. 2:8-11 – The Church in Smyrna) - Nov. 20 – Jan. 1
  • Open to Personal Transformation (Rev. 3:1-6 – The Church in Sardis) - Jan. 8 – Feb. 5
  • Open for Daring Service (Rev. 2: 18-29 – The Church in Thyatira) - Feb. 12 – March 11
  • Open to Deep Communion (Rev. 2:12-17 – The Church in Pergamum) - March 18 – April 22
  • Open for Spirited Witness (Rev. 3:14-22 – The Church in Laodicea) - April 29 – June 3

In these themes you will see the ebb and flow of the spiritual journey; a journey that takes us from movement inward to movement out, from focus on self to focus on community, from revived spirits to renewed service.
