2017 Youth Mission Trip

Location: Marvell, Arkansas
July 17–23, 2017

Our 2017 Youth Mission trip will take us to Marvell, Arkansas, where we will partner again with YouthWorks in their ongoing presence in this small, rural community. We took a group to this mission four years ago and had a fantastic experience! We hope you will consider coming with us as God knits us once again into the story of this small southern town.

The 2017 Youth Mission Team (four high school youth, Pastor Nick, and Jerry Konrad) will be working hard to organize our trip and choose our day off location. We will also help to lead our fundraiser dinner on March 11 before First Congregational’s annual Intergenerational Musical.

The team will also share specifics for those signed up at our Mission Meeting 7:30-8:45 PM, February 1, 2017 in Fellowship Hall.

What We Will Do

Marvell has a complicated history of economic depression, segregation, and a strong history rooted in cotton farming. Our service will consist of painting and completing minor repairs upon homes, yardwork, and running day-camps for children in the local area. We stay at an unused school and in the evenings, enjoy worship on sight, as well as off-sight visits for worship and learning about the history of the area. Our planning group will locate a super-awesome experience for our day off…more information to come!

Fundraising

Every year we have a variety of fundraising efforts to defray the cost of the mission trip. A key to our success is the participation of all youth in the winter/spring Dinner and Auction. Additionally we will continue the Youth Stock Sales that our church has so generously supported in the past and off-site fundraising opportunities are also planned. When you participate in our youth mission trips, you make a commitment to be involved in these fundraising efforts. Final trip cost will be determined after our spring fundraising. Our financial goal for this trip, after fundraising, is to be in the neighborhood of $400. We cannot give a final cost until May, once all fundraising is finished.
