Teaching and Helping

Teachers

Teachers lead a workshop for a six-week unit. They teach the same lesson that is adapted for various age groups. Students rotate to a new workshop each week. Pathways staff members purchase and set up all supplies and activities, allowing our teachers to focus on presenting the lesson and building relationships with their students. There are many advantages to teaching in a Workshop Rotation Setting:

  • Volunteers can teach lessons that appeal to their own interests and strengths, such as art, cooking, music, sports, computers, dance, and storytelling.
  • The only prep-work necessary is reading through and becoming familiar with the lesson
  • Teachers can adjust their presentations each week to improve their delivery of the material
  • Teachers get to know ALL of the children who attend Pathways
  • Children are so engaged and excited about the lessons that there are very few discipline problems.
