On Thursday, November 11 at 7:00 PM, the Fox Valley Sierra Group will host a virtual panel discussion on the Back 40 Mine.

Members of the Save the Menominee River Coalition will provide an update on the proposed mine near the Menominee River between Wisconsin and Michigan. The Menominee people have numerous sacred sites and burial mounds up and down the Menominee River, including the area of the proposed mine.

To save their cultural sites, the Menominee Nation and many allies are committed to stopping a Canadian company’s bid to build a 750’ deep open pit mine that will produce 70 million tons of acid-producing rock and milled tailings. Panelists are Guy Reiter, a member of the Menominee Nation, and Dave Blouin, a Sierra Club member working on mining issues.
