Back Bay Mission is a community ministry of the UCC – the ONLY ministry of the UCC on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

For 100 years they have assisted people in crisis and helped people transition out of homelessness and poverty.  They are marking their 100-year milestone with a capital campaign to build much-needed tiny bedrooms as transitional housing; rehab the day shelter and substandard housing; add mental health staff; and provide emergency food, clothing and utility assistance.

First Congregational has a long history of providing volunteers on-site at Back Bay Mission, for example Ken Jahnke has just returned from his second month-long service trip there. We have seen first-hand how desperately BBM needs the items in their capital campaign. Therefore, we have created, with our own contributions, a matching gift fund – a challenge we hope will inspire this congregation.

Your contribution to Back Bay of any amount will be matched dollar for dollar up to $10,000.  This means your contribution will make a bigger difference in the poorest state in the country.

To contribute, send and make your check out to First Congregational with “Back Bay 100” in the memo line or, if you use Realm, select the Misc. Fund and put “Back Bay 100” in the memo line.  Thank you!

If you have any questions, please see a Back Bay volunteer at the refreshment table after the worship service on November 27.
